We have a high school in our city who has a special ed class. They developed a group called the Amigos. These are some of the older class students. These students got started with only a few of them helping the special needs kids during outings. The older students approx. 16 years of age became more interested as they learned more about the kids they were helping. The school found this an excellent idea and gave them the name Amigos meaning friends. This school 's students are much more aware of what is happening with all other students and feel it is O.K. to either interfere with problems or report them.
