Is laughter really the best medicine? Legendary comedian and Saturday Night Live veteran Darrell Hammond says he’s mastered the art of telling jokes about even the most traumatic experiences in his life. Although most famous for his funny impressions of Bill Clinton, Sean Connery and Donald Trump, Hammond says behind his many onstage personas is a man who has overcome a devastating childhood. In his book, God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m F***ed, Hammond chronicles the struggles he endured as an aspiring comedian and his tragically abusive relationship with his mother, who he credits as the main source of his comedy. He says she tortured and abused him for years, once beat him bloody with a high heel shoe, placed his fingers in electrical sockets, and even sliced his tongue open with a steak knife. To cope with the memories, Hammond says he abused drugs and began cutting himself so badly, he was once escorted from his SNL office in a straitjacket. Now Hammond claims he’s confronted his painful past, but doesn’t know how to forgive his mother. Hear Dr. Phil’s advice for the funnyman. Then, comedian Christopher Titus of former hit sitcom Titus shares how comedy helped him survive years of abuse at the hands of his mother, his stepfather's brutal death, and the suicides of his mother and sister. Plus, Titus reveals how his comedy helped save one fan’s life. Tune in and learn how to laugh, live and love your life again!
