The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared a swine flu pandemic, raising the alert level from phase 5 to phase 6. Nearly 30,000 confirmed cases of the H1N1 strain, or swine flu, have been reported in 74 countries. The most instances of severe and fatal infections occur in adults between the ages of 30 and 50 years.
