As economic times grow increasingly frightening, many Americans are asking, "Will I find a job? Can I support my family? Will my savings survive?" Dr. Phil is joined by Bishop T.D. Jakes, best-selling author and leader of one of the fastest-growing mega-churches in the U.S., to answer your questions and share strategies for staying motivated during this time of uncertainty. First up, Susan says her 19-year-old daughter, Emily, is living in a fantasyland and refuses to grow up and get a job. Emily says she's not lazy, just laidback. Will Emily hear the wake-up call like her mother hopes? Next, meet Lisa, a wife, mom and self-proclaimed domestic dictator who says it's her way or no way. Find out how she reacts when she receives a surprise visit from the Bishop. Lisa's husband sits down one on one with the pastor. How does Lisa respond when she observes their conversation? And, their find out what Lisa's teen daughters have to say about her. Then, Jennifer says she has to wear the pants in the family. Her fiancé, James, says her constant pushing makes him feel like less of a man, and their engagement is on the rocks as a result. Can Dr. Phil and the Bishop help keep their relationship afloat? Talk about the show here.

The bigger question is: Why do Americans have so many social and family problems?
My answer is: Because you have very little government programs, in terms of social security, like paid education, paid healthcare, etc. Why don't you just accept an increase in your taxes and then have government services for these problems to be addressed? Why are Americans so much against increasing taxes for the greater good? It's like saying, as long as I'm okay, I don't give a damn about anyone else.....
Do you like treating youth like expendable goods to be fed to the lions in the military and at war? Look at the results: 4000 to 5000 dead American soldiers in Iraq and tens of thousands of others who come back maimed. It's terrible. Use your brains and stop engaging in war. We don't need war in the third millennium. War is about money. There are better ways to make money.

growing up am so glad my father didn't give me everything I wanted,I consider myself a business person at a young age .If anyone can remember when you were able to sell seeds for money that was my first business I later on after learning how to knit made head bands for a quarter,a lot of money for a little kid like myself.I also had my famous candy business.I considered myself very independent. After having kids and having to raise them alone as a divorce parent taught them if they wanted something they had to work for it.So when hard times hit it didn't have an affect on getting everything they wanted

I wasn't spoiled as a kid, and when i turned 12 i started babysitting kids on my street. I got my first real job as a lifeguard when i was 16, and saved up enough money to buy an electric piano myself (1500$). I was very proud because it was my first big purchase with my own money.
If you raise your kids always giving them what they want, and not making them earn anything, then of course they will turn into lazy spoiled ungrateful adults. How dumb can you really be? There's no magic spell to make young adults go out and get a job, just stop giving them free money, and they will have no choice but go and get a job. Who cares if they don't want to, don't give them any other choice.
Of course, no one WANTS to work a job they don't like, but that's life.

The existence of a health plan in CA is determined by the state government and not by the federal government. The feredal health plan does not legislate anything about state health plans.

Because I have taught so many college students the age of the young woman who didn't have a job, what worried me is that she doesn't seem to have any passion about anything. She is in school, but she isn't giving it all of her energy. Maybe she is in the wrong major and needs to decide what she is really interested in and what would cause her to get up in the morning early and want to go out and be active. This may mean majoring in anthropology or Chinese art, but it's important for a student to find himself or herself and find professors who motivate you. If a college student has an interest, then the next step is to aggressively apply for internships and part time jobs. I agree with the young woman that working in a restaurant is a waste ot time, but she has to have a passion for something so that she has an alternative.

Unfortunately, we Leaches On Society don't count cos we don't pay taxes. >:(
I'm afraid when Obama's health care plans go into effect, it will eliminate MediCal. Which would put me up a creek, cos I wouldn't be able to afford my psych meds. My SSI is already down to $850 a month. What happens when Schwartznegger decides we're draining the budget and decides to cut it again??? Or cull the ranks? I suppose my family would take me in.... again.... but a lot of people don't have family to fall back on.

Want to send their kids' toys to Dr. Phil like Emily's mom? Here's what you can do without swamping Dr. Phil with boxes of stuff. Put the stuff into a storage unit, and don't let the kids have the key! A 5x5 unit should be enough, and it's not that expensive.

My daughter is 17 and had a baby from her now husband 18. My daughter feels the same way as the female does about her fiance and working. My daughter is finishing school and her husband it seems does not want to take care of his responsiblities. They have been married about 7 months and he has had 3 jobs and let go from each of them. I am not sure why from 2 of them but he told me he has not worked because he is lazy and waiting for a job that may not be available anytime soon. I got my daughter and grandson out of his father's run down trailer and in their own apartment and his fathers continues to want to move in with them because he has problems with his girlfriend. There seems to be some issues with him and controling what his son does and my daughter wants her husband to grow up and take care of her and the baby. I live too far away and am trying to stay out of their way, but there are beginning to be too many things i feel my daughter is not street smart to deal with when it comes to his family and her husband. If my daughters husband feels like the fiance about being told to get a job or two then what advice can I give my daughter about the situtation.
I myself would love to have my daughter and grandson back here with me just because I know her dad and I can take care of them. She seems to think she knows better. I had to just let her go and learn the hard way. I just don't want anything bad to happen to her or the baby which is starting to happen already with police being called due to her father-in-law being so involved and not letting his son live his own life with his wife and child.
My heart breaks everyday!!!

I'm sensitive to the approach that the Bishop is taking toward the African American couple. From the part I saw, the Bishop made suggestions to the Brother and the Brother man nodded yes to his "will you walk away to avoid the next twenty years?" We know those passive-aggressive guys that con the public into thinking that they are "saints" while setting the wife up to always look like the bad guy. Also in our culture we know from Bell Hooks and others that if a father/husband can cause division between a mother and daughter(s), the man can control. You had these daughters talking about that mother in a very bad way. Shame on you Bishop. If she does it in her way (with the iron hand) she's wrong and if she takes her hands off and follow the husband's method, she doesn' t work like she appreciates him.
That woman is wearing herself out. And she says she wants to be thanked and to be lovingly and verbally appreciated. Weren't you listening? You tell the family to make adjustments to acknowledge her and her contributions. It seems that she's willing to do a tit for tat (a sincere adjustment for a sincere acknowledgement). Maybe they should make a gratitude (toward their mother and his wife) bulletin board and add to it daily. But my guess is that they will say, "we ain't ask you to do it."
And then Dr. Phil uses the phrase "No Man" when speaking to a Black Family but uses the term "no Individual /person" when talking to another culture.
So ya'll telling him,he got to be brutal with his (African American) wife and make her cry and adjust his brand of masculinity to make her suck sorrow and humiliate her.
And this is what she gets for asking for help?

I just watched your show and my comment has to do with your last guest specifically Jennifer. She said some things that upset me. I am a divorced father of 14 yrs. and my ex use to say some of the same things not about me mind you but about married couples and the roles that husbands and wife's HAVE to be in. Man Bread winner and Woman stay at home and at the minimum work at a charity or no more than part time, if you have it like that great.
But back to Jennifer, she stated that her fiance is lazy and she makes the money and has the job and she has lost respect for him. She said other things also that I really don't think she thought about before saying them, I hope she watches the show. But my point is with all this is if you were to turn this couples situation around and he was the one with the job and brought her on TV to say the same exact statements, most in the audience would be beside themselves. How dare he! This situation happens everyday with women it seems us men have to be so careful what we say and women just let us have it without regards to OUR FEELINGs. Is it because we are men and we should be able to handle it? Its just like if you see a woman hit a man, even if he said something that was rude when it happens even in public everyone just says or thinks oh or ouch, but most the time nothing will be done. Now turn it around, the guy does that even if the girl deserved it he would be arrested and or beat up by bystanders. I don't advocate hitting women, my dad would come out of his grave. But why is this? Just like the Pastor said to the other lady one day she's going to do something, maybe even to her husband and she's going to get it back. I hope not.
So, Dr. Phil what are we or I suppose to do with the hypocritical thinking it seems to even be happening in my new relationship not as much she's not as bad but its still there.
